Donald Boothman Memorial Concert

Organist and pianist Malcolm Halliday uses both the historic 1874 Johnson Organ and the recently acquired Steinway piano in music from a broad range of cultures, including Latino music of Spain, Portugal, Argentina and México as well as music from the US, Austria and Germany. For several works he will be joined by renowned New England clarinetist Chester Brezniak performing Blue Jeans: an assortment of Blues and Things” by contemporary US composer Tom McKinley as well as Rositas Iglesias, a charming work by 20th century Argentinean composer Carlos Guastavino. Organ music of the Renaissance and Baroque period from the Iberian Peninsula as well as works with organ by Mozart and Mendelssohn showcase the Stone Church’s outstanding pipe organ, a nineteenth century masterpiece of workmanship made right here in Massachusetts. Works of North America include the rousing Battle of Trenton, composed in 1797 and dedicated to George Washington by Boston composer James Hewitt, Barcarolle by acclaimed New Hampshire composer Amy Beach and Caprice Valse by the 19th century Mexican piano virtuoso and composer Ricard Castro.
