The Court, the Palace, the Ocean, the Trees
Michael Poll, classical guitar and Emi Ferguson, flute, will perform works by J.S. Bach and Domenico Scarlatti which they have arranged for their instruments. Classical guitarist Michael Poll, who is also a conductor, recently obtained his DMus (Doctor of Music) degree from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, where he focused on Johann Sebastian Bach’s compositions and their emotional impact. His debut guitar album, 7-String Bach, was called ‘masterful’ by Gramophone Magazine. Mr. Poll also offers concerts in schools to help build a foundation for young people in understanding classical music.
Emi Ferguson, who plays modern and historical flute in concerts worldwide, and who is also a Bach specialist, collaborated with Mr. Poll to arrange The Goldberg Variations for their instruments. Selections from this collaboration will lead off the program. Ms. Ferguson is a Professor at the Julliard School. She offers an online history of the flute.
