Mackenzie Melemed In Concert 2024
Avery Fisher prize-winning pianist and Massachusetts native returns to the Stone Church Cultural Center
Tickets $35.00. More Information
Pianist Mackenzie Melemed has two homes: one in Helsinki, Finland, where he flourishes fluently; and one that he will never lose in his native New England, according to his many fans who knew him growing up. Mackenzie will return to the Stone Church to perform a solo piano recital inspired by his native Massachusetts and his home in Finland. A reception with the artist will follow the concert.
Sibelius: Sonatina No.1
Amy Beach: Ballade Op. 6
Brahms: Variations on a Theme by Robert Schumann Op.9
Jaakko Kuusisto (1974-2022): Jurmo
Beethoven: Sonata Op. 28 “Pastorale”
Jaakko Kuusisto was a gifted violinist, composer and conductor. Mackenzie performed the US premiere of his Piano Concerto at FinnFest in Duluth, MN in 2023. His piece, Jurmo, is inspired from the small Finnish island on the western archipelago of the same name, and its minimalist design gives way to a beautiful soundscape.
Although there is no substitute for live music, you can listen to this April 2, 2022 recording of Scriabin Preludes Op 16 (“masterfully played” according to pianist Ivan Gusev) by Mackenkie Melemed at the Stone Church Cultural Center.

This program is funded in part by a grant from the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency, and by Local Cultural Councils of Barre, Oakham, and Petersham.
Local Cultural Councils are local agencies which receive support from the Mass Cultural Council.
Youth under 18 are free at all FOSC concerts.
